Senbei
Senbei are traditional Chinese crackers that have been enjoyed for centuries. These delicious and crisp crackers were first made in China during the Tang Dynasty. It’s made from potato and has a cake-like texture. Modern Chinese senbei though, are made from toasted glutinous rice and are one of the most popular foods of the country. Ask a random Chinese citizen if they have ever eaten it, 100% sure they have. They grew up with it.
It’s no wonder that these crackers are so popular; they’re not only delicious, but also healthy, low calorie and gluten free. They’re available throughout China in lots of different shapes, sizes, and flavors. Sweet, savory, or even soy sauce, green peas or seaweed flavored; it’s all there. Fun fact: there’s also senbei powder to use as a spice!
Senbei can be bought almost everywhere throughout China in supermarkets, street food stands, and department stores, but here in the Netherlands it’s difficult to find.
Shrimp stick-prawn cracker
Another child-hood snack and another cracker; the shrimp stick-prawn cracker. These crunchy and crisp ones have a slightly shrimp flavor and are a treat for the senses and taste buds. They’re super tasty as they combine saltiness and sweetness, and are low calorie. Besides that, the smell is awesome. We dare you to buy these crackers and not eat the whole pack. And last but not least, they don’t cost that much. Hence, the perfect snack for kids and also adults.

The third one; biscuits. Although they’re called crackers, they’re not. Time to talk about the three most popular kinds of China: Black Sesame Thin Cracker, Coconut Thin cracker, and Nature Oat Cracker. They don’t only taste good, but are all great for intestine health, something the Chinese strive for.
The black sesame seed is a simple and natural relief for constipation.
